The ILOILO ZEN CENTER

IMG_3947Situated in bustling Iloilo City, the Iloilo Zen Center is the epicenter of Zen practice in the beautiful Island of Panay and its surrounding areas.  The Iloilo sangha is a closely knit community of sitters and holds Regular Zazenkai every Monday at 5:30 pm at The Cenacle, Assumption Iloilo, General Luna Street 5000 Iloilo City.

Our sangha belongs to the Sanbo Zen lineage of Kamakura, Japan. The Sanbo Zen combines the best of the Soto (sustained zazen) and the Rinzai (koan practice) schools of zen. It was founded by Yasutani Haku’un Roshi on 8 January 1954. Unlike most other schools of zen, the Sanbo Zen does not require its followers to embrace the Buddhist religion. Some of its masters and teachers are in fact Christian priests, pastors or nuns.

Our group is led by Dr. Henny Espanola, with Elda Perez Sensei as our Head Teacher.

For inquiries  please call Dr. Henny Espanola at 09209513660 or email : henrietta_spl@yahoo.com

Welcoming diversity, the practice of Zen is available here to people of any or no religious affiliation, race, nationality, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and physical ability. The Zen way is open to all who have a sincere desire to try it. We are always happy to welcome anyone who would like to join us.
